Why are there minor differences in the way our mobile website displays on mobile devices?
Mobile technology is changing, and changing fast. Standards of interpreting web data still haven't been agreed upon so there are bound to be some small differences between how, for example, an older Blackberry and a new iPhone display pages. The options you have chosen on your phone can also affect the way websites are displayed. Consult your phone maker's website for information on how to change options such as whether or not to display background images.
Why wouldn't I just create a mobile website myself, or have our in-house programmer take care of it?
Developing sites for the mobile web is a new art, with more nuances than it may originally seem. Although the pages are simpler, the devices are more finicky and getting a page to play nicely with a wide range of phones is something that's taken us time to develop.
What about older flip phones?
We apply the principle of Progressive Enchancement to our development process, which essentially means that we design from the least to the most capable device, applying increased aethetics and/or usability along the way. The less advanced phones will receive a version of the site which suits their capabilities.
Will I have to register and pay for a new domain name?
No. Simply adding a subdomain (i.e. m.domain.com) to your existing website is sufficient. We'll coordinate with your IT department to have it point to your new mobile site.
